Elevage Partners financial advisor Bob Chilman retires to the world of music

Bob Chilman serves on the board of the White Mountain Symphony Orchestra and provides music lessons

SHOW LOW, Ariz. – Elevage Partners financial advisor Bob Chilman recently retired after a financial services career that spanned more than 40 years. But he’s not done working: Bob and his wife, Murilou, are pursuing their lifelong passion for music.

Bob plays cello alongside Murilou, a violinist, in the White Mountain Symphony Orchestra. And they have a thriving music school that provides voice and instrument lessons to students from ages 10 to 60-plus.

After spending years kayaking, hiking and skiing in the White Mountains area, the Chilmans moved to Show Low from Scottsdale in 2015. “We didn’t set out to do this,” Bob says. “We thought we’d fully retire in two or three years, and all of a sudden we have an army of students who come to our house. It’s fun.”

Bob has been playing for the White Mountain Symphony Orchestra for the past eight years and is putting his financial talents to use by serving on the organization’s board of directors.

Bob, who turns 80 this summer, was a music teacher before beginning his financial services career. Bob put his teaching skills to work as a financial advisor, too. “I was honored to be able to help clients work through whatever financial issues were on their minds. I always tried to clear away the fog that can surround complex questions and problems,” he says.

A few years ago the Chilmans, who have degrees in music, provided lessons as a favor to teachers in the Show Low area and since then their music school has grown by word of mouth. Bob now teaches nine cello students and one voice student, while Murilu has 14 students.

The couple met in the music program at the College of Idaho, have been involved in church music programs together ever since, and have been married for 56 years.

Bob has passed the financial baton to Elevage Partners advisors David Smith, Certified Financial Planner®, and Mark Zembo. “They share my philosophy and we are very much alike,” he says.
